Furniture items have a really rich history, starting from the time back in the seventeenth century when a basic concept of furniture was being laid upon the base of adding a beauty in the house, also fulfilling the needs of storage and accommodation of different house hold items. In the earliest times, the furniture was made of dark wood, with a mediaeval style that was named as American style furniture and it came with its origin in Europe. In the beginning in seventeenth century, the furniture had a very simple, plain and uncomplicated making with plain seats fixed on straight wooden legs, as chairs and with no arm rests. With the passage of time and up gradation in the manufacturing processes in the 18th and 19th century, the designs were modified by just adding a touch of hankering and craving certain patterns at the back of chairs. With the advent of twentieth century, chairs were again modeled and this time these were given elaborate and obscure patterns with styled and structured arrangement of different curved shapes as well. The furniture in earlier times was much heavier in weight and their mobility was an issue, however, later by the twentieth century usage of light wood was being made for furniture manufacturing, in order to facilitate in portability and movement.
Different types of wooden styled furniture have evolved through different periods in history influenced by different trends. The most common and in fashion styles include the popular Jacobeans style, William and Mary style, Colonial style, Queen Anne style, Georgian style, Chippendale style, Robert Adam style, Hepplewhite, Federal, Sheraton, Shaker, Victorian, Arts and Crafts, and the Scandinavian Contemporary style.
